A Spanish-Inspired Malibu Estate Designed for Entertaining

Designing a luxury estate on California’s coastline comes with a different set of opportunities than most residential projects. When you have acreage, ocean views, room for recreation, and multiple outdoor destinations, every decision has to support the overall experience rather than compete for attention.

For this Malibu concept, Nate Fox designed a property that offers something different everywhere you go. The main entertainment area centers around a dramatic zero-edge pool with floating daybeds and an outdoor kitchen, while the rest of the estate expands into gardens, walking paths, a tennis court, gathering spaces, and quiet places to enjoy the property.

Challenges

Large estates present a different design challenge than smaller residential properties.

Instead of fitting features into limited space, the goal becomes creating enough variety that every part of the property feels purposeful while maintaining a consistent architectural language across the entire estate.

The design also balances expansive outdoor living with recreation, gardens, and long views toward the Pacific.
