Prepping For A Day With CBS Sunday Morning

It all started with an email.
We got a message from someone at CBS asking for Foxterra to participate in one of their episodes.
We get hundreds of emails every week, so we figured it was spam at first. But it was genuine, and the team at CBS wanted to film a segment showcasing how people can bring the indoors outside.
Within a week, their crew flew from New York to Southern California to film with Justin.
Including David Pogue, the Emmy-winning journalist and CBS Sunday Morning correspondent.
But selecting the yard to feature was the first challenge. We have such a variety of projects in so many different design styles — from modern to traditional, transitional, and everything in between.
The yard that we landed on is perfect for this segment. It has an outdoor seating section, an outdoor fire pit, a swim-up bar, a projector screen, a large lounge space with dining, a rain curtain, an oversized spa, and even a gym that’s integrated into the outdoors.
The yard highlights what they were trying to emphasize, which was bringing the indoors outside and how that elevates outdoor living.
What It Was Like Filming The Segment

Arriving on shoot day, you realize it takes a huge production to film something like this. The final clip featuring Foxterra was about three minutes in length, but the reality is, there is so much professionalism and work that went into filming.
There were cameras, people setting up mics, a drone up above, and an entire crew that makes every one of their episodes possible. We were just soaking it all in.
And, meeting David as he walked in was special, too.
He is someone who connects and meets with a lot of incredible people and has interviews with a lot of unique setups to so it was an honor to be able to meet and interview with him.
When asked if he felt nervous about filming, Justin said, “If there’s anything I am passionate to talk about, it’s design.” He said he felt more excited to jump in than anything.
And David made him feel comfortable and natural, which you can see reflected in the final edit.
Touring A Foxterra Yard

Too often, people don’t realize how you can truly elevate and unlock the potential in an outdoor space, but it starts with design. And that’s why we were so excited to take David through one of our yards and share the design on national television.
Justin’s passion for design started when he was just 9 years old. He took money saved from Christmas and birthdays and went to Home Depot to buy plants for a garden DIY.
Now, fast forward and all these years later, doing a segment like this with CBS Sunday Morning is a labor of love and a result of following his passion.
Touring the yard, Justin and David discussed all of the elements that take a yard above and beyond. And create an outdoor space that feels like you’re bringing indoor luxuries outside.
