Our Six step
Design Process

Our process is the same for every client, whether you live in Southern California or Abu Dhabi. It all starts with a discovery call to get an understanding what you are looking for in your new private resort.

Step 1

Discovery Call

First, we will schedule a phone call to discuss your upcoming project and listen to your needs, requirements, and budget for your new private resort.

Step 1

Discovery Call

First, we will schedule a phone call to discuss your upcoming project and listen to your needs, requirements, and budget for your new private resort.

Step 2

Proposal & Deposit

After the discovery call, we will send you a design proposal based on your new project along with a deposit amount to secure our working with you.

Step 3

Base Model

After you submit your deposit, we will have our design team build out the base model of your home and existing exterior space. During this time we will also schedule a Zoom video call with you to get inspiration for your new design.

Step 4

Design Magic

This is where the magic happens and we begin designing your new luxury, private resort. Every conversation we’ve had with you will be taken into consideration as we create the best design possible for your space.

Step 5

Design Reveal

Once your initial design is completed we will hop on a zoom call to give you a 3d, virtual tour of your new outdoor space. During this call we will discuss any revisions you would like us to make to the design (and we might even make a few changes live).

Step 6

Design finalization

Finally, we will apply any revisions you requested to the design, and create the proper documents to send over to your construction team. Now the build-out of your new private resort design can begin!

Frequently asked questions

If you’ve still got questions about our design process or anything else about our company, there’s a good chance you’ll find an answer here. But if you can’t find what you’re looking for below then feel free to reach out to us at connect@foxterradesign.com.

Great question! Every design firm’s package is unique.

Here is what’s included with a Foxterra design:

  • Recreation of your existing home’s exterior and property in 3D
  • Conceptual drawings in 3D of your design and proposed space.
  • Revised designs based on your feedback from the original plan.
  • Contractor ready design documents detailing out all materials, dimensions, finishes, sizes, etc.
  • Furniture callouts/recommendations

Our design documents include a plot plan of the designed space, scaled drawings with dimensions, material callouts, lighting callouts, pool details (depth, elevations), and elevation drawings of proposed design elements. We do NOT include engineering drawings for our work and encourage our clients to work with their contractor to provide the engineering drawings, because they will be familiar with your local city codes.

First off, you can rest assured that we do not design yards that cannot actually be built out. We have spent the last 15 years testing and building out our own designs to ensure that everything we design is possible.

Secondly, the best way for you to find a contractor that is capable of doing a great job on your yard is to do a local search on social media or Google. Whether you live in an area with plenty of options or a place that is more remote, there is almost always a great option available (even if it means having a company travel to you). Determining if a contractor is qualified to build takes time and research. We encourage you to check out the company’s past work and talk with clients that they have worked with before to make sure they speak highly of their abilities.

Yes! We design worldwide.  We have designed landscapes for homeowners in 5+ countries and in over 10 different states. As long as you have the ability to do a video chat, we can design your exterior space.

Yes! When choosing your materials we always take your location and what is realistic for your space into consideration. We want you to enjoy your Foxterra Design for many years after your project is completed.

No need! Because we design for clients all over the world, our work is set up to be completely remote.

If you do happen to be in either Los Angeles, or Orange County, CA then we can schedule one of our designers to come out for a site visit once the design contract has been signed.

Not necessarily. Our design will cover the areas that you specify you need help with. Our cost is based on the areas we are designing; i.e. just designing your back yard is less costly than doing both the front and back.

There is a possibility that you may not like our initial concept, however we typically include 3 revisions in the design fee so that we can work to adjust the design to your taste based on your feedback. If the HOA or city has corrections required in our design we will continue to work with you to adjust the design or suggest changes to meet requirements requested.

No matter where you are located we do our due diligence to make sure that the materials in your design are available to you in your area. Should materials not be available at time of construction; we will work with you to suggest alternative materials that are available.

Absolutely, safety is very important to us and we can work with you on the options available to make sure your pool or other features are properly protected.
