Before & After
Our clients reached out wanting an outdoor space, but thinking it wasn’t possible for their yard. They have a gorgeous piece of property, a home they love, but no backyard.
Instead of treating their front yard like a typical home entrance, we gave them the resort-style space they wanted, in the front of their home. They get to come home to this incredibly luxurious, exciting yard, and it sets the tone for their entire home every time they walk through to the front yard.
We added water features, layers, and a ton of hidden elements that make this yard feel like an adventure full of discovery.
Designing For Discoverability
One major focus for this outdoor space was discoverability. We wanted to make this home’s entrance exciting, with a design that feels interactive. We really wanted anyone who is using the space to feel like they are being led on this path through the yard, up to the home, and we did this in a number of ways.
First, we offset the statement columns at the entrance so that when you look through the gate, you aren’t really sure what else is going on in the yard. You’re unable to see the rest of the space, and you don’t get to experience the rest of the elements until you move further into the yard.
We added pathways that span the entire space and move through water, fountains, and art. Every step through this yard makes you feel like you are being guided deeper into the experience.
Seamless Indoor Outdoor Living
Another priority for our team was making sure this yard integrated seamlessly with the home’s architecture. The modern home fits in so well with the surrounding landscape, and we didn’t want the yard to feel disconnected from that. Instead, we created this space that feels like an extension of the home.
We did this through material choices and design shapes to mirror the design of the home. And, we made sure there’s no hard delineation between the yard and the house. There’s no obvious start and end to the outdoor space, which helps it feel like a natural extension of the house.
Floating Pads, Baja Shelves, and Water Experiences
Floating concrete pads were designed to act as seats, so guests can be surrounded by water without getting wet. Multiple Baja shelves allow for lounging and flexibility, while a generous spa comfortably seats 8–10 people. The pool itself integrates unique elements like a planter with a tree set in water, and even a swim-up bar — turning relaxation into connection.
Elevated Comfort: Outdoor Kitchen, Decks, and Privacy
The patio cover reflects the home’s architecture while adding practical comfort for the desert climate. Integrated misters cool the space, while a custom wood privacy screen balances openness with seclusion. An outdoor kitchen sits at the center of it all, positioned with views that feel like living art. Above, multi-level decks lead to seating and lounging areas, complete with swings that bring playfulness into the refined design.
A Hidden Surprise
Tucked into the space is a hidden outdoor TV. It’s a luxury feature that brings resort-style entertainment to the backyard. It’s perfect for outdoor movie nights, watching the game, or just enjoying a soak, swim, and your favorite show.
