Key Takeaways:
– You don’t have to travel to a five-star resort to enjoy features like a lazy river, a swim-up bar, or floating daybeds.
– Below, we’re sharing five of our favorite resort-inspired features from real Foxterra projects to give you some ideas for your own backyard.
What if you could have some of your favorite resort experiences right in your own backyard?
We’re talking lazy rivers, swim-up bars, floating daybeds, and even your own private spa retreat.
These are the kinds of features you’d normally expect to find only at a five-star resort. But you can actually have them at home, too.
Here are five resort-worthy features to consider adding to your own yard.

Your Own Private Lazy River
If you’ve ever spent an afternoon floating around a lazy river at a resort, you know how incredibly relaxing it can be. You’re floating on an inflatable, just drifting around the property. Now, imagine being able to that whenever you want, without having to travel to a private resort.
We took that idea to another level with our Lazy River Resort project in Indio, California.
Along with the lazy river, we incorporated a hidden cenote-style spa, jumping rocks, and a swim-up bar.
For a family that loves spending time in the water, it’s hard to imagine a more exciting backyard because it’s filled with resort-inspired features that most people assume aren’t possible at home.
Floating Daybeds in the Pool
Why lounge beside the pool when you could relax right in the middle of it?
Floating daybeds are one of our favorite ways to bring that luxury resort experience home.
For projects like Terravue and Ivory Hideaway, we incorporated oversized daybeds surrounded by water to recreate that experience of lounging poolside at an exclusive resort.
It’s the kind of spot where you could easily spend an entire afternoon, that leads into the evening, and it’s getting dark before you even think about going back inside.
A Swim-Up Bar
There’s something about being able to grab a drink without ever leaving the pool that makes you feel like you’re on vacation.
And a swim-up bar is one of those resort features that you can actually enjoy right at home.
You can sit in the water and have lunch, grab a smoothie or a snack, or hang out and talk with friends who are sitting on the other side of the bar.
At Terravue, we took the idea even further by incorporating an entire dining table right in the pool. So instead of getting out of the water for lunch, you can sit down and enjoy a meal together while you’re still in the pool.
It’s a really fun feature for entertaining, especially if you love having people over for pool parties. But even on a regular afternoon with your family, it’s great to be able to grab lunch, hang out, and enjoy the pool without ever having to get out.
Swings Over Water
Swings are another feature we love incorporating into our pool designs.
And while you might be used to seeing them along the beach at a luxury resort, you can actually have them right in your own backyard.
For our Elysian project, we incorporated swings alongside the pool, giving the family another place to sit, relax, and enjoy being near the water without having to jump in.
It’s a fun alternative to traditional poolside seating, and something both kids and adults can enjoy.
Your Own Private Wellness Retreat
If you love spending time at the spa when you’re on vacation, imagine having all of those experiences right at home.
For our Ivory Hideaway project, we incorporated an entire indoor wellness area with a sauna, right next to the outdoor living spaces.
So you can spend the afternoon by the pool, head inside for a sauna session, and then go right back outside to relax or hang out with family.
And one of the best things about having a setup like this is how easy it is to enjoy these features whenever you want.
You could make a sauna session part of your morning routine, spend a little time unwinding after work, or enjoy a full spa day at home without ever having to leave your property.
One of the things we love about designing custom backyards is how different every project can be.
Some families want a pool with all kinds of activities. Others want a quiet place to relax, spend time with friends, or enjoy a little privacy.
And you certainly don’t need every resort-style feature on this list to create an incredible backyard.
What’s important is figuring out what you and your family would actually enjoy, then making the most of your space with those things in mind.
