Incorporate Color
The biggest design trend we’re seeing right now is a return to color!
We’ve been living in a place where design styles have been very neutral.
Millennial gray was everywhere. White tones. And now, it’s more of a beige look that is very popular.
But we’re finally starting to see people incorporate more color back into their spaces.
How can you take this trend and apply it to your yard?
It could be something like this beautiful Zellige tile and using it as an accent color in your space.
You don’t need to add color everywhere. Incorporate a little bit as an accent in your yard. It will create depth and interest. And it’s a design trend that will look incredible forever.
Dedicate Space For Wellness
Another trend in exterior design spaces is wellness.
What does wellness mean when it comes to your space?
A lot of our clients when they request this it’s something like a cold plunge.
Or, an outdoor sauna — and placing it somewhere where you have a gorgeous view you can look out and enjoy when you’re in the sauna.
These elements that go into wellness and well-being are definitely a trend that we’re seeing in our design work.
And they’re something you won’t regret adding to your yard.
Add A Feature Wall
Another definite trend that we’ve been seeing are feature walls.
What is a feature wall?
This is anything that’s a backdrop — it could be the back wall of a kitchen or it could simply be the wall that’s connected to a patio structure.
A few years ago, it started getting popular to have monolithic, single slabs of material as a feature wall.
Now, we’re trying to create visual interest with feature walls.
We can still use one material, but an update on this trend is to create a more dynamic focal wall that you actually enjoy staring at.
And, this is relatively easy to incorporate into your yard. Instead of using a single slab, consider breaking up the materials in slats, or creating channels to add LED lighting.
One of our favorite feature walls is the one above, where each panel is angled. It creates this visually interesting effect that’s so much more dynamic than a solid surface.
Location Inspiration
Another definite trend we’re seeing is location inspiration.
We have so many clients who come to us and say “I just got back from a vacation in Tulum, or Bali, or Santorini” and they want us to recreate that in their backyard.
A lot of our clients are getting inspired by some amazing destinations.
And that inspiration can be incorporated into the final yard through design details, material choices, textures, colors, and more.
Location-inspired choices are a huge trend right now.
Hang Swings Over Water
This final trend is my favorite and these are swings over water.
This is something that works in any environment and in any yard.
There is nothing like being suspended a few inches over the water and just relaxing — especially if it’s a daybed where you could actually take a nap.
This is absolutely my favorite trend at the moment and you will not regret adding a swing to your yard.
